As Cedric the Entertainer scanned the crowd of more than 6,000 gathered on Chicago's South Side to remember Bernie Mac on Saturday, he cracked that the comedy king was "still the hottest ticket in town."

Fans, friends and fellow celebrities descended on the House of Hope megachurch to bid their farewells to a man who never forgot his humble Chicago roots, reports the Associated Press.

Hundreds of mourners had never even met Mac — or had met him only long enough to shake his hand, get an autograph or thank him for representing his neighborhood.

Mayor Richard Daley recalled that Mac was in his office recently, asking how he could help fight violent crime in the city.

"He wanted to help get children away from a life of crime and violence," Daley said during the service. "That's why he's the king of comedy. He never lost his soul in Chicago."

Mac died Aug. 9 at age 50 of what his publicist said were complications from pneumonia. He had been at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital since the middle of July.

With a vote of 37 to 1, the California Senate passed a bill Wednesday that makes it mandatory for patients seeking cosmetic surgery procedures to first undergo a physical exam.

The measure, known as AB 2968, was crafted in response to the death of Kanye West's mother Donda West. The former educator/author died last year from a heart condition that was exacerbated by cosmetic surgery.

Earlier this year, Donda West's niece, Yolanda Anderson, and California State Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto) introduced AB 2968 into the state's legislature.

According to Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles), the tragedy comes as a wake-up call for patients and their families to take steps to ensure a safe medical experience.

"Many of us are concerned about the quality of care extended to those who receive elective surgery," the senator told the Times.

Our spy on the Turks & Caicos Island says LisaRaye McCoy Misick remained in the hospital Thursday afternoon after Wednesday night's physical altercation with her husband, Turks and Caicos premier Michael Misick.

The confrontation followed allegations from LisaRaye that Rocsi from BET's 106 & Park had been having an affair with Misick and was staying at the mansion last weekend while LisaRaye was in New York.

As previously reported, Misick released a statement Tuesday announcing his separation from the TV star. According to Caribbean Net News, LisaRaye returned to the island earlier this week to work out a divorce settlement. But sources told the news outlet that the process had gone very badly from her standpoint. Misick ended up banning his wife from the mansion and she was reportedly forced to be stay at a local beach resort.

On Wednesday night, LisaRaye ignored the alleged ban and confronted Misick at his mansion. The situation turned violent.

"He beat her bad," a source told Eurweb.com Thursday afternoon. "She came in the same day Rocsi went out, and he had already issued the statement that they were separated. Apparently she went over there and got into the fight. She's now in the hospital.

"The sub-story is that he has been under investigation because $57 million dollars is missing from our government. They froze all of his bank accounts. He's getting a separation because he can't afford to get a divorce."

Misick, according to our source, dispatched his fleet of bodyguards to stand around the perimeter of the hospital to prevent reporters from interviewing LisaRaye about the incident.

DUELING PRESS RELEASES

Although LisaRaye is reportedly hospitalized with injuries, which was said to include bite marks, Misick released a statement Thursday denying that he assaulted his wife, and accused LisaRaye, her cousin and her rep of attacking him.

It read:

“Last night LisaRaye, her cousin Phillip Travis, and her publicist Lynn Jeter assaulted the guard at the Premier's home, proceeded to ransack the house, and then assaulted the Premier and his sister. As the result of her assault on them, both the Premier and his sister were taken to the hospital with injuries and later released. The Premier at no time had any physical contact with LisaRaye.

"It is public knowledge that the couple has been separated for months, and LisaRaye has no lawful right to be in the residence. Her conduct yesterday clearly contradicts her stated commitment to dissolve the marriage amicably.”

Several hours later, LisaRaye released the following statement:

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce that my husband and I have separated.

Last night, Wednesday August 13, 2008, an attempt was made by and on behalf of my husband to first prevent my entry into our home and then, later, to make me leave our home by force.

It was necessary for me to receive medical treatment for injuries suffered and in relation to those injuries I shall continue to assist the police force with its enquiries.

Whilst it is my sincere wish to avoid unnecessary conflict, I shall not be intimidated, nor shall those individuals whose job it is to protect and represent me.

I ask that my privacy be respected in these difficult times and I believe that the people of the TCI will understand and support my wish to receive the necessary independent representation from the legal counsel of my choosing. I hope that, in time, the TCI government will come to share that view.

Although I have always been a supportive wife even in light of the very serious allegations currently pending against the Premier, there are limits even for me.

I continue to have the utmost respect for the people of the TCI who have always shown me kindness and support. I vow to continue my work amongst the people of Turks and Caicos Islands.

Until recently I had hoped that I would be able to continue to assist my husband during what will undoubtedly be difficult times ahead for him. I do not wish to have to add to his difficulties.”

Local TCI news station WIV4 interviewed LisaRaye at the airport when she returned to the island earlier this week – before the fight.

"I was just as shocked about hearing about it as anyone and everyone else, but just as any wife's position would be in such an allegation as this, it has to put a damper on the marriage," she told the WIV4 reporter.

"With all that's happening with Michael – the rape and the corruption allegations, and his ill behavior, even this weekend for our recent music festival – I think he's just spiraling out of control. I will just continue to be uplifting, and I will pray for him."

Showbiz Spy is reporting that Kelly Rowland racked up a $372,000 bar tab while partying with friends – and U2 singer Bono – in St. Tropez, France.

Friday's pricey 10-hour bender took place at Amika's Weekend Takeover and reportedly included 50 bottles of vintage Dom Perignon, 24 bottles of Patron tequila and 10 bottles of Louis XIII cognac.

"Kelly was the ultimate host and even when the bar bill began to spiral out of control, she refused to close the tab," a source is quoted as saying. "She had 30 very thirsty pals, so it was always going to be a pretty big night.

"At one point, Kelly started dancing wildly and put on a silly Viking hat, much to the hilarity of everyone."

"Bono arrived quite late and Kelly told him to order whatever he liked. A good night was had by all," the source added.

Samuel L. Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Star Jones were on hand at the Hamptons home of Def Jam chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid Saturday night to toast the 4-month-old marriage of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon.

Reid "did it up," a witness told the New York Post. So much so, that neighbors reportedly called police at midnight to complain about the noise.

Fox.com columnist Roger Freidman described the gathering as "the most elegant, laid-back event of the Hamptons season so far."

Freidman wrote Tuesday: "I was talking to Mariah and Nick when the music got fired up, prompting Mariah to declare, 'I'm going to dance up a storm. It's the one thing I do really well!'

"And Mariah did, indeed, dance to DJ Cassidy. She twirled and dipped and had a fine time. Meanwhile, the Reids' guests chowed down at various stations set up all over their backyard — on four different kinds of gourmet pizza, the best fried chicken and mac-and-cheese I've ever tasted and a selection of Greek treats."

Other guests included Carey's manager, Benny Medina, Russell Simmons, Gayle King, Jessica Seinfeld, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, opera great Kathleen Battle, producer-director Lee Daniels; Universal Music Chief Doug Morris, Kerzner Resorts' Jerry Inzerillo, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The newlyweds are spending the rest of the week at a farm in East Hampton they rented for $125,000, reports Page Six.

An autopsy has yet to be completed on Isaac Hayes, but authorities in Memphis said that the soul legend apparently died of a stroke.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Shular said that paperwork filed by Hayes' family physician, Dr. David Kraus, lists the cause of death as a stroke, reports The Associated Press.

No official determination has been released by the medical examiner's office or filed with the Memphis health department, which issues death certificates.

On Sunday, family members found Hayes laying unconscious on the floor of his Memphis home beside a treadmill that was still running. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital an hour later.

Relatives said Hayes was under a doctor's care but did not provide further details.

The family issued the following statement: "We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and love from Isaac's dear friends, colleagues and fans from every corner of the world, and we thank each and every one of them for their kind thoughts and prayers. While he was an iconic figure to many, to us he was husband, father and friend. We will ever miss his love, wisdom, humor and the familiar comfort of his voice."

Isaac Hayes is survived by his wife of three years Adjowa Hayes, and their 2-year-old son Kwadjo Hayes; ten children, Jacqueline Fields, Felecia Hayes Fisher, Veronica Hayes, Vincent Hayes, Melanie Hayes, Nikki McGhee, Heather Hayes, Isaac Hayes III, Darius Caston and Lillian Bryant; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Cordova, Tennessee on Monday at Hope Presbyterian Church (8500 Walnut Grove) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To celebrate Hayes constant support of the Stax Music Academy and his Stax Records Legacy, the Hayes family, in lieu of flowers, requests that donations be sent to the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, made out to Soulsville, 926 E. McLemore Avenue, Memphis, TN 38106. (Please specify "In memory of Isaac Hayes.") Condolences may be sent to the family at message@isaachayes.com .

Ashanti, whose hit "Rain on Me" sampled Hayes' 1970 hit "The Look of Love," spoke to People magazine about his influence on her generation of singers.

"Isaac Hayes helped pave the way for so many artists like myself," said the singer. "I also had the honor of meeting him several times – he was always so sweet like an older uncle."

Also commenting on Hayes' passing is Richard Roundtree, who played the title character of the 1971 movie, "Shaft," for which Hayes's movie theme song won both an Oscar and a Grammy.

"He was a warm, gentle soul," Roundtree told People magazine. "During those special times when you were with someone that you fancied, if you put on Isaac Hayes, it set a really romantic mood. You'd put on Isaac Hayes and follow it with Barry White, and it was a special evening."
